Last Wednesday we introduced a new sport to the teen mothers at Casa Mantay: American football. Two girls in particular, Nelida and Teresa, showed talent as a quarterback and kicker, but the best part of the day was the teamwork involved in making a touchdown against the teachers. New to throwing and catching a football, the girls initially struggled to reach the end zone without dropping the football or being tagged by the teachers. However, after countless efforts, the team succeeded not once, but two times in a row. The day ended with entertaining field goal kicks, though it proved not as fun for those passing by who had to avoid the flying footballs. We plan to continue football next week as it was a hit.
