Kyla and I are enjoying our summer vacation here in Cusco. During our break, we have had time to reflect on our experiences, and we wanted to share some of our memories thus far.
We arrived in Cusco in July in the middle of a teacher strike! We had a great orientation with Alika and Lydia and then used the time to explore Cusco, prepare for the school year, and acclimate to the Andes.
We started classes in August and had a great time getting to know the students from all five of our schools.
In September, we had a great time on our first paseo with Casa Mantay at the Choco Museo. Kyla and I also went to Rainbow Mountain and climbed all the way up to 5000 meters (15,000 feet)
In October, all the girls came over to our house learn about healthy eating habits and we made vegetarian pizzas and fruit salad! We had a great time getting to know the girls outside of the sports court.
In November, we got World Cup fever and celebrated with our chicas and the rest of Peru when the national team qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 36 years!
December flew by so quickly! Kyla and I ran our first 10k at altitude. We also celebrated the end of the school year with our students and said goodbye to the amazing 6th graders as they graduated from primaria secundaria.
We started our football unit with the girls a few weeks ago
